3 Sisters Photo Shoot

I’ve been known as a wedding photographer for going on 14 years. It’s my thing. I love shooting weddings, and I feel like I’ve picked up a few skills here and there. But I always find it a little funny when people are surprised when I do a studio shoot. Actually, when I started out… Read More

Hustling Business

I Booked A Wedding Today I feel pretty good. I booked a wedding today for a fall wedding. The bride is an organized all-business no-nonsense girl. I love brides like this. The reason I mention today’s booking is because she originally hired another photographer. Or I should say, she “tried” to hire another photographer.  The… Read More

Save The Date Cards

Save the Date Cards. This is something that seems to be less popular over the years with engaged couples, and it is a shame. For those of you who do not know what Save the Date cards are, it is a card that is mailed out traditionally about 6 months from the date of the… Read More

K9

The term K9 usually refers to a Police Dog. As some of you know, I’ve been a police officer since 1984. As a photographer I’ve wanted to do a shoot with a K9 team for a long time, and it just never worked out. Last week, I did it, and I’m very proud of the… Read More

A Photographer For Every Client

Sometimes I get a little off track in my blog, venturing off into dieting, politics, humor, motorcycles and other topics. Today I want to talk about money, and photographers. Today I saw a prominent photographer griping/ranting because someone on social media was looking for a photographer for a family portrait. This photographer has, in the… Read More

Special FX Composites

About five years ago, I found myself in a photography rut. Although I’m primarily known for doing San Antonio Wedding Photography, I also enjoy Special FX pictures. I was amazed at photographers like Joel Grimes who does commercial work for companies like Nike, Adidas, and other big companies. He shoots composites, where he will take… Read More

Your Engagement Session

What the Heck is an Engagement Session? So you’ve booked the venue, and just hired your photographer (Me!) and the photographer has mentioned an “Engagement Session”? In the past, Engagement Photos were used in the couple’s announcement, wedding invitations, or Save the Date cards. They are informal, casual, sometimes playful photographs of the couple. These… Read More

Family Portraits at the Pearl

Family Portraits in San Antonio

Nancy called me and said that someone referred me to her. She needed a photographer to do a family portrait session of four generations in her family. We talked about locations, and I suggested the Riverwalk area around the Pearl. This is one of my favorite portrait locations. There’s the northern beginning of the San Antonio River (known as the Riverwalk in San Antonio) the historic Pearl Brewery, the Hotel Emma, and even an urban area with graffiti all within a short walk. MagMod Toys

MagMod Photography Gear

MagMod MagSphereIf you’ll excuse me, I must geek out every now and then and talk about photography gear. I got some new toys in the mail today, and I’m excited about using them. It is a new system of flash modifier that attaches to the flash unit.  It’s called “MagMod”.  It’s one of the newest and coolest new product in the past five years. This picture is the MagSphere.  It looks like a little silicone hat.  It diffuses and softens the light so that you don’t have those little harsh specular highlights on the cheeks or nose. It is omnidirectional, so it sort of throws light in every direction. Read More
