Family Portraits in San Antonio
Nancy called me and said that someone referred me to her. She needed a photographer to do a family portrait session of four generations in her family. We talked about locations, and I suggested the Riverwalk area around the Pearl. This is one of my favorite portrait locations. There’s the northern beginning of the San Antonio River (known as the Riverwalk in San Antonio) the historic Pearl Brewery, the Hotel Emma, and even an urban area with graffiti all within a short walk.
98ºF, 2000% Humidity
Not the ideal conditions for a portrait session. I still love being a photographer in the San Antonio area, but on days like this, it’s hard to believe that people live here and come out in the heat. Getting out of my car felt like I just got hit by a HOT wet towel in the face. Sweat is pouring out of every area of my body, and I’m sure my shirt was soaked by the time that Nancy arrived. I got to meet Nancy, her girlfriend, her mother, and some of her cousins and other relatives. I start every portrait session with “Modeling 101” where I show the girls how to stand and pose so that it is flattering and feminine. Yes, it’s always funny to watch an old fat guy demonstrate this. I won’t show you, I’ll just leave you with that mental image.
Have you ever posed in a group photograph? Did the photographer line everyone up in a straight line? Yep… I hate that. Maybe there are photographers who love it, but I’ll try to mix it up, and create little groups of people. After a few minutes, we had everyone laughing, posing, and even throwing the baby up in the air. It was a good time. I love doing family portrait sessions.
